On Saturday, December 16 Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School will host their 5th Annual Feed6 Meal Packaging event. Students, families, teachers, and staff are invited to come out to the two-hour event, starting at 9:00 a.m. and package fortified meals to be delivered to local food pantries. Students have been working diligently to raise a minimum of $30.00 to help cover the costs of the food, materials, and delivery. Anyone else interested must raise a minimum of $20.00. The event is a chance for the community to come together and give back during this season of giving.
“At Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, we believe that being a good citizen is just as important as being a good student. Our students greatly benefit from a variety of meaningful learning experiences, including those embedded in community service. Therefore, as part of our promotional criteria, we require all OLHMS students to complete 2 hours of community service each school year,” said Event Coordinator, Heather McCarthy.
Last year, more than 150 volunteers were able to donate more than 17,000 meals for Veterans and local food pantries. If you’d like to make a donation head over to the Feed6 website before Monday, December 11 at 8:30 a.m.
